As you might have heard already, with Ernő Rubik's initiative and help, the Rubik's Speedsolving Association has been recently formed. The RSA's most important goal is to support and popularize the competitions of speed cubing.
With the help of RSA, we would like to announce
Rubik's Cup, a team competition at the Hungarian Nationals 2017, where the winning team's members can win a trip to the World Rubik's Cube Championship 2017 event in Paris, sponsored by RSA.
Thanks to the RSA, the competitors of Hungarian Nationals 2017 will have a chance to try out, compete with and keep a limited edition Cube. These Cubes were first designed for the
Beyond Rubik's Cube exhibition in Shanghai and only 2000 were manufactured by GAN. 50 of these special Cubes have been shipped to Hungary for the Rubiks Cup and may serve as a base for a new speedcube, which is intended for displayed later in Paris during Worlds 2017.
Why should you compete?
The top 24 competitors can enter the race, all of whom can keep the Cubes they will compete with.
The teams who finish 2nd and 3rd will win a free registration to the World Championship 2017 OR to Hungarian Open 2017.
The winning team’s 3 members will win a trip to the Rubik’s Cube World Championship 2017 in Paris in June. All the expenses, such as travel, accommodation, registration and one daily meal will be covered during the championship.
But what is the
?
The top 24 finishers of the 3x3x3 first round will be eligible to enter this competition. (If someone qualifies but decides to withdraw, we will accept the next competitor in line.)
All the 24 competitors will receive a special edition Rubik’s cube (3x3x3), which you can keep at the end of the competition.
The 24 competitors will form teams of 3 where the teams will compete against each other in a knock out format
Each team will be ranked by the average of their member’s results from the 3x3x3 open competition first round.
During the first half of the lunch break, the teams will race in the following ranked order: 4v5, 3v6, 2v7 and 1v8.
During the Rubik’s Cup competition, teams will race each other simultaneously in a relay race with team members performing one solve individually before the next team member starts. The winning team will be the team with the lowest total time.
RSA have created special timers that will record individual times and total team time and check that a team member does not start before the previous member has completed their solve
The winners of the first round will meet in the semi-finals, from where each victor will go straight to the finals.
More details will be provided at the competition.
More about the competition and about the opportunity to win these cubes will follow at the competition.
